As a first generation Vietnamese-American, Mike felt an obligation to make the most of his opportunities that his immigrant parents fought so hard to provide him. But even though his family was part of a robust Vietnamese community in Sugarland, TX (a suburb of Houston), Mike still felt like an outsider. Unlike most of his friends, he wasn’t fluent in Vietnamese and his emerging sexuality only made him feel more separated.
Even after leaving for college and coming out to his family, Mike maintained a rigid moral code and was skeptical of other queer people who had more loose definitions of relationships. It wasn’t until he lived in New York City that he became friends with other queer people who were in non-traditional partnerships. Now he lives in Seattle with his two boyfriends and most of his friends have very open perspectives when it comes to love, friendship, sex and relationships. In his 33 years, he’s come a long way from Sugarland.
Mike also has some amazing adventures to talk about including an eye-opening hook up with a dom top in Hong Kong and a sexy cross-country adventure to Canada that ends with a very important lesson when it comes to dildo selection.
