Guest curator Kieran Medina introduces the short film collection he personally selected for Chosen: Transgender Reflections on Family.
Kieran Medina (they/he) is a community curator, using art, film, music and events to bring people together. He is a queer Latinx trans man and a tender masculinity ambassador, born in Mexico City, raised in the San Fernando Valley, and presently residing in East Los Angeles on Chumash, Tongva and Kizh land. Previously, Kieran was the Coordinator of Artist Support & Community Development for the Sundance Co//ab Community team at Sundance Institute, where he supported the curation and production of year-round digital filmmaker educational content, programs and events for the platform. He now serves as the Educational Programs Manager here at Outfest, where he leads our annual Screenwriting Lab.
Kieran is also a consulting programmer for Outfest, where he curates programs and produces events that champion emerging multi-disciplinary queer and trans storytellers - including the third & fourth annual Trans Summit in 2019 and 2020 and the first annual Latinx Night in 2018.
